When redoing your roof, an important thing to consider is how to make it aesthetically pleasing. Of course it is crucial to pick a style and materials that are financially and architecturally wise, but don't forget to consider colors; let your roof reflect your personality!

Deciding on a color can be tough since there are so many things to consider. Does it match your home's exterior? Will you like it ten years from now? Thanks to Angie's List, we've compiled a list of things to consider when choosing the color of your roof:

Dark or Light?
One study shows that plywood sheathing under black shingles is 10 degrees warmer than a white shingled roof on a hot sunny day. However, there isn't too much of a difference between other color patterns, so don't worry about heat retention too much.

Permanent Colors
Paint and shutter colors are easy change, but brick color is forever. If your home is clad in brick, carefully consider the way your sample colors match the exterior.

Complementary Colors
It's always nice to match, but choosing a color that perfectly matches the siding or brick is one "to don't" you don't want to miss! If your roof is identical to the siding or brick, your home exhibits a lifeless color scheme; choose complementary colors instead.

Shade and Sun
If you're starting with samples, make sure to take a close look at them in the sun and in the shade. You want to make sure you like the way it looks under a variety of circumstances.

Resale
While it might not be on your mind now, in the future you may consider selling your home. Although you may be into bright, bold colors, keep in mind that not everyone will agree.

Tone It Down
Too many patterns and colors often prove to be overwhelming. When making the decision, consider the exterior of your home first and assess whether or not certain colors will seem to be a little "too much."
